We have done another 100km today to arrive at Enurmino. Progress varies from between 10km/h down to crawling when we are being towed over ice. Our biggest fear is that we will go over on our side and Oleg won't know and just continue driving as he cannot tell whether he is towing or not - the tank just keeps going. As he has no "back window" and his mirrors are ice - he opens the door every couple of minutes just to check that we are still there !!

At the moment the Land Rover is unbelievable though - it is incredible that it still keeps going. Only another 260km or so to do !! The section from Enurmino is the hardest as we have to leave the sea and sand spits (as there are too many cliffs) and travel inland.

Here is a listing of some interesting and varied news stories about Russia and Chukotka in particular: Circumpolar Musings

The Red Cross of Chukotka also has population and village details of Neshkan, Enurmino and Uelen (the Russian version of this site actually has a Chelsea Fan Club !!

Below are pictures of a pressure ridge. Its these that are causing the problems as we can't go over them so have to find a way round. Only a few years ago the sea used to freeze flat but now there is no pack ice and instead there is open water out to sea which results in these pressure ridges.
